Summary

Three-time Emmy Award–winning newscaster and popular YouTube and social media encourager, Dominique Sachse delivers a powerful call to women to embrace their outward beauty as the first step in living with internal boldness, confidence, and renewed joy。

An Emmy Award–winning journalist who has anchored Houston's evening news for almost three decades, Dominique Sachse knows about the connection between external appearance and self-confidence。 Through the years, she has garnered more than a million followers on YouTube and appeared on the Today show several times to share her wisdom about beauty and its ability to bolster inner worth。

Writing to every woman who has found herself lost in a sea of other people's needs or drowning in endless responsibilities, Sachse urges them to create space in their lives to discover--or rediscover--who they really are and to rekindle that fire within, inspiring them to take bold risks。 Through personal stories she shows them how she has fought fear with faith and has chosen to express grace and class in all situations。 Like a close friend, she also vulnerably describes her own mistakes and imperfections and explains how making over her outward appearance resulted in a happier and healthier version of herself--emotionally, spiritually, and physically。 Filled with confidence-boosting wisdom about cultivating rest and lifegiving hobbies, Sachse also offers practical, expert tips about hair, makeup, and fashion, all while encouraging and affirming women to live to their fullest。

A genre I often appreciate, and I was expecting a lot from such a vibrant, accomplished person。 Alas。 Fake it until you make it results in cliché-filled, condescending, prosperity gospel trope。

Let me just preface in saying that I really appreciate and enjoy Dominique's content on YouTube, it's inspiring, fun, down to earth and relatable。 However, the book left me with a bitter taste。 It came off as extremely preachy and as a reviewer before me mentioned, my jaw dropped when she mentioned being kind, even to people beneath you。 I find that utterly distasteful and wrong。 In addition, I feel most of the book was just a rehash of her YouTube content。 Disappointing in more ways than one。 Let me just preface in saying that I really appreciate and enjoy Dominique's content on YouTube, it's inspiring, fun, down to earth and relatable。 However, the book left me with a bitter taste。 It came off as extremely preachy and as a reviewer before me mentioned, my jaw dropped when she mentioned being kind, even to people beneath you。 I find that utterly distasteful and wrong。 In addition, I feel most of the book was just a rehash of her YouTube content。 Disappointing in more ways than one。 。。。more

I am so disappointed in this book。 I enjoy watching Dominique's YouTube channel, but this book is just not good。 I was hoping to meet the real Dominique and hear in depth about her real experiences and how she dealt with them, but all we get is a regurgitation of the things she says in her videos which to me at times are a little problematic。 I don't like her "Fake it until you make it" message。 Toxic positivity is so unhealthy。 And no, putting on a full face of makeup is not the cure (as she so I am so disappointed in this book。 I enjoy watching Dominique's YouTube channel, but this book is just not good。 I was hoping to meet the real Dominique and hear in depth about her real experiences and how she dealt with them, but all we get is a regurgitation of the things she says in her videos which to me at times are a little problematic。 I don't like her "Fake it until you make it" message。 Toxic positivity is so unhealthy。 And no, putting on a full face of makeup is not the cure (as she somewhat suggests)。 Sometimes life just sucks and we need to be able to feel that and process it。 Constantly repressing emotions to "fake it" is not good for anyone。 Finally, there is something that really is sticking in my craw。 Under her tips for being "classy" she basically says to be kind even to people who are beneath you。 This is gross。 No one is beneath you and that's not very "classy" of you to say, Dominique。 ICK。 How about just be kind to everyone??? 。。。more

Nothing New Here!If you subscribe to Dominique's YouTube channel you have already heard 99% of what's in this book。 Watch her videos instead they are more entertaining。 Read this book in about 10 minutes。 Her personality does not shine through at all。 It's a shame。 Such a lovely intelligent woman was not given the proper guidance by the editors to engage the reader is sad。 Her talent is wasted in this book。 I cannot give it more than 2 stars for this reason。 Sorry Dominique if you read this。 Wil Nothing New Here!If you subscribe to Dominique's YouTube channel you have already heard 99% of what's in this book。 Watch her videos instead they are more entertaining。 Read this book in about 10 minutes。 Her personality does not shine through at all。 It's a shame。 Such a lovely intelligent woman was not given the proper guidance by the editors to engage the reader is sad。 Her talent is wasted in this book。 I cannot give it more than 2 stars for this reason。 Sorry Dominique if you read this。 Will still watch you every week! 。。。more
